The Most Important Definitions Sales Professionals & Business Owners Need To Know

Action: A process or state of activity to exert physical or mental activity. A process of moving forward. Until you take action nothing will ever happen. When you fail to take action you become Inactive.

Inactive: Sedentary or passive; sluggish or lackluster.

When you look at the most successful salespeople in an organization are decisive action takers. The top 1%er’s Think an act quickly, they see an opportunity in the marketplace and seize it. The most innovative business owners posses the same qualities. The majority of under performing sales professionals & business owners share the desire for the results of the 1%er’s but are unwilling to take action. Some of the key characteristics of under performing salespeople & business owners are:

Indecisiveness: The inability to make a decision.

If you find it hard to make a decision you most likely fit the characteristic of being indecisiveness and you will rarely find yourself at the top of any sales charts. The indecision you posses will cost you time, money, and opportunity. When you finally come around to deciding to take action it will likely be too late. You are the person who finds your self buying high and selling low rather than buying low and selling high. You wait for others to take action before you are confident enough to do so yourself. You will rarely be confident in your decision because your decision is based on others rather than on your own confidence or plan.

 

Fear:  Is an emotion induced by a threat perceived by living entities, which causes a change in brain and organ function and ultimately a change in behavior, such as running away, hiding or freezing from traumatic events. Fear may occur in response to a specific stimulus happening in the present, or to a future situation, which is perceived as risk to health or life, status, power, security, or in the case of humans wealth or anything held valuable.

Fear is probably the number one reason people fail. Fear will make you indecisive and compound all the above pitfalls of indecision with fear. Fear often stems from lack of confidence.

 

Lack of Direction: A course along which someone or something moves. In order to have direction one must plan and in order to plan you must be able to make a decision on how to formulate the plan. To execute the plan one must take action. You can see that one who fails to action will become inactive, has proven to be indecisive, and likely these have all come as a result of fear that was seeded in a lack of confidence.

 

Inability to invest: Many business owners and sales professionals are of the old school “word of mouth” method of marketing. Many people go into a field or business venture underfunded. Not having money to invest or access to money to invest in yourself or your business is a sure fire way to failure. I could write an entire post on this topic but the bottom line is this. Your competition is investing in their business. YOU MUST INVEST or you will get stuck.

 

Failure To Follow: One of the greatest things about being human is that we have the unique ability to learn from one another’s experience. The problem is that ego keeps many people from being willing to follow in the steps of a coach or mentor. There are and always will be someone who has been there and done that. There is nothing wrong with seeking those people out for help. Alignment with a coach or a mentor is critical to success. This gives you the unique ability to mastermind with another successful person who has a different vantage point into your world. I highly encourage you to find a mentor, coach, or mastermind group of like minded individuals who can help one another grow.
